  1. ICS causing issues on network even though no connection is shared

Hello all I have an odd issue. When rebooting my laptop at home all devices on the same switch will lose internet. It seems to be coming from the ICS service, the odd thing is I do not have any connection shared as far as I can see in network connections. I have the latest feature version of windows 11, 21H2. I've currently disable the service but before it was set to manual so I believe that means something had to start it. Is there a way to figure out what started it and or why its causing issues on my lan network?

    :)

ICS (Internet connection sharing) dosent work in Windows 10 1607

For me, ICS recently broke on 1703 a while ago.

Down to «Error 1753: There are no more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper. ».

I've migrated to 1709 - and for a couple of days it worked normally. Now, it's broken again.

There's a chance that some common update package causes this on all versions. But I've not tried to find it yet.

Related feedback on feedback hub (for insiders):

Non of them looks 100% perfect for me, so I've created one more:

Please consider upvoting, adding screenshot, your reproductions and etc if you want this fixed.

Personally, I was able to fix this by resetting firewall rules, as suggested in

Problems with Internet Connection Sharing after 2017-11 Windows 10 Update [Temporary fix found]
    .

Simply do "Start -> type 'firewall' -> restore default policy" (consider creating a backup with "export Policy" before erasing it).

I'm not sure, maybe the issue would be back in a couple of days....

  3. Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) regularly broken by Microsoft updates

I have a desktop PC that has two LAN adapters. One end is connected to my ISP. The other end is connected to my network switch and home network. I have ICS enabled so that the home network routes through the desktop to reach the Internet. The concept of
ICS is great, I just click "share internet connection" and the other computers can connect.

On regular occasions, the PC takes a Windows Update and then the house no longer has access to the Internet. I have to completely "unconfigure" and "reconfigure" the Share Connection option, with reboots in between steps, in order to get it working again.
If I'm out on a business trip I have to trouble shoot this from a distance because the family is offline.

I searched and found this is a common problem, and msft, with all their good hearted, world-changer engineers, seems not to want to address it. Reports are that regular ICS failure on an update has been around since Windows 7 and it gets worse every release,
and now, much worse with forced updates. That's been my experience.

Am allocating time to uninstall Windows and install Linux. I'd rather not but I can't have my household internet going down because of forced updates.

Before I make this switch, any final troubleshooting suggestions?

ICS causing issues on network even though no connection is shared

Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service is unable to start automatically on boot?

    Hi,

We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps that YanisLukes
did to resolve the same issue.

To update your network adapter, you can follow these steps:

    • Select the Start button, type Device Manager, and select
it from the list of results.

    • Expand the category where your device is located, then right-click on the name of your device, and select Update Driver Software.

    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

If Windows doesn't find a new driver, you can try looking for one on the device manufacturer's website and follow their instructions.

If updating the device driver doesn't work, we suggest that you reinstall the driver:

    • Open Device Manager.

    • Right-click on the name of the device.

    • Select Uninstall.

    • Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

If the issue still persists, we suggest that you follow the troubleshooting steps provided here:
How to Troubleshoot Internet Connection Sharing Problems.

Let us know how it goes.

    Regards.
