Windows 10: Identify missing registry key causing 0xC1900101-0x40017 in the second BOOT phase of 2004...

I am attempting to update a Windows 10 1909 build to build 2004 and I am experiencing an update failure and roll back with error 0xC1900101-0x40017 in the second BOOT phase.


I have tried the following actions, all of which have not resolved the problem, tried over around a dozen attempts to perform the upgrade:

• Removed the anti-virus package
• Removed the VPN host
• Terminated non-Microsoft services and run a Clean Boot.
• Removed all USB devices except mouse & keyboard
• Updated cleanly all machine drivers using an automated driver updater
• Disabled the firewall during upgrade
• Disconnected the Internet during upgrade

None of which have resolved the issue, which, according to Microsoft’s setuperr.log is:


[RelPost.exe] RegOpenKeyExRecEnv failed: 0x2 ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND


This error, which has been consistently reported throughout all the upgrade attempts and which is fatal to the upgrade process, is the non-existence of a registry key. If Anybody could identify the key, I could attempt to patch the registry with a dummy value. Any help would be welcome.

I have done all the suggestions EG clean boot and stopping

mi server. Spend many hours also uninstalling the old programs. No success. Now

I received the following message.

0xC1900101-0x40017

Installation failed in the second Boot phase with an error during Boot operation.

Further more as suggested I updated the Nividia driver and removed all USB devices, No success?

Could it be because my Windows 7 was updated to 7pro?

I finally have had enough I reinstalled about 15 times. When windows 7 it worked perfectly well..

 

Error 0xc1900101 0x40017 when updating to 2004

Hi, I am trying to update my windows 10 pro from 1909 to 2004. I tried already 3 times, the first twos with windows update and the latest with the iso. However they end with the same result with the error 0xc1900101 - 0x40017 "the installation failed in
the second_boot phase with an error during boot operation".

I found this page https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/resolution-procedures but I don't have Citrix VDA
installed (I don't know even what is its purpose) so I can't follow the solution steps.

Has anyone got any suggestion? Aside for a clean install. Thank you

Error with windows update, trying to install the November update of windows 10

The Installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation.

I have done the DISM stuff the SFC stuff and even did a full CLEAN install of windows 10 losing all my programs and that's how i got the error i listed above. I downloaded the patch using the Windows Media tool as the windows update wont seem to download it and say it will try again later. It always seems to fail on one of the restarts.

Any Idea how to get the November update installed? Oh and now some of my programs are saying im missing MSVCP100.dll and trying to go to the download page at Microsoft just says try again later.
