IE Proxy Credentials, Where to change them?

    Hi,

I am having problems changing the system proxy username and password.

I setup the proxy server in settings\proxy and launched internet explorer, I was prompted initially with an authentication prompt and entered my login details. All was fine until my proxy was down and I couldn't connect, so had to change the credentials for a new proxy.

I found there are no input boxes anywhere you would expect, where you can simply edit and change the old credentials to updated ones. I have checked in system settings\proxy, internet options\lan settings, I have tried some command lines options with netsh winhtt set proxy. I checked the registry settings in Internet Options, but all I can change is the proxy itself.

So the question is, where are the username and password for the proxy stored? So I can easily change them?

Hope someone can help. Thanks. Jaffy

    :)

  2. Proxy Credentials Have to be Entered for Every TAB

    Hi Franklin,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

    • Which credentials are you referring to?
    Method 1:

I suggest you clear the Clear browsing data option
of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

    • Click on the more actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Edge.
    • Select Settings and click on
      Choose what to clear.
    • Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files
      and click on Clear.
    Method 2:

If you are using any Proxy connection, then try disabling the proxy connection and check.

Follow the steps to disable proxy:

    • Press Windows key + R and type
      inetcpl.cpl
    • Click the Connections tab, and then click
      LAN settings.
    • Check the box next to "proxy server for your LAN".
    • Click on OK to save the setting and close window.
Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help

    Thank you.

  3. Adding credentials to Windows Proxy Settings

    Hi All,

So I played around a bit with different settings, proxy management apps and I found a suitable solution that I would like to share with you all (for in case some others have the same issue).

    Setting up the Proxy Settings:

In the Windows 10 menu, I went to settings (WinKey+I) and searched for "Configure Proxy Settings". Select Internet Settings > Local LAN Settings >Proxy Server Settings.

Select the option to make use of a proxy server, and enter the Server Address and Port

Setting up the credentials for the Proxy Server:

In Windows 10 menu, go to Settings (WinKey+I) and search for "Credential Manager". Under Windows Credentials, add a new entry for Windows Credentials. Enter the Proxy Server address (without the port number), your domain user name and the password.

Once these details are active, you should be able to make use of the proxy server under your custom entered user credentials.

Just remember to deactivate the "Use a Proxy Server" setting (first step) when browsing from outside the network where the proxy is required.

    Regards,

    Pieter

  4. IE Proxy Credentials, Where to change them?

Adding credentials to Windows Proxy Settings

    Hi All,

Our organization has implemented a proxy server which uses credentials to allow internet access to web browsers and apps.

I know that one can configure the proxy settings using Internet Settings > Local LAN Settings > Proxy Server Settings, but there is no place to enter the login credentials. I take it the assumption is that the Proxy is usually configured to accept AD credentials,
but my PC is not on the domain, so I have to find another way to add the relative credentials to access internet.

I have successfully configured other apps to use specific credentials via their proxy settings interface (FireFox allows to add credentials to specific proxy settings), but other apps makes us of the windows configured proxy settings and there are no allowance
    for supplying credentials.

I have even tried running the program as a specific domain user, but as the PC is not on the domain, this option is not successful.

Any suggestions to add specific credentials to windows proxy settings?

    Thx
