Windows 10: If I buy an external 5GHz adapter would this be solved or would I still be stuck with 100mb...

I got an old laptop: HP pavilion i7 1000gb HD. The laptop internet limit is only 100mbps 2.4 GHz standard as I checked on its settings. I'd like to know if I'd bought an external 5GHz adapter that would've increased the internet efficiency considering the laptop limit of 100mbps for internet connection. Even if I use a Ethernet cable hardwired the max internet I can get is 100mbps. Could this be solved if I buy an external 5GHz adapter or would I still be stuck with 100mb due to laptop limit - This is the max limit I tried to change in settings ????? Please

can't see 5ghz networks although adapter supports it

it's A and not AC but from what i read in forums it should at least detect it right? should be there on the advanced tab list.
it's a 4 year old pci adapter.
Samuria: you mean the router may not support A? haven't thought about that... because it IS a dual band router and other devices detects and connects to the 5ghz .

Hawman: tried it. no luck.

it starts to feel like not worth the hassle and better to just buy a new one

Thanks for your replay Mr. Jack but I have tried everything resetting my phone, router also but I have never seen my phone show the 5Ghz networks....!!! Anything else u can suggest?? It works well with the 2.5Ghz network...!! I have other phones at home which
connects to the 5Ghz network and works fine..!! It's only my 950xl which doesn't show the 5Ghz network...!!
