    If I delete something from the desktop, but then arrange the icons the deleted item comes back


    Strange issue I'm having. Basically, if I delete something from the desktop and then do an arrange by straight after the deleted item(s) will come back, they're not usable but the icon is there. And if I hit refresh there will be an empty square on the desktop, like it's trying to leave space for the deleted icon.

    Hello,

    Kindly further elaborate your concern, to assist you better.

    In the meantime, you may follow the step below to see if this would address your concern:

    • Right-click on your desktop > Click View.

    Note: If you want to manually arrange your desktop icons uncheck Auto arrange icons
    then drag your icons depending on where you want to place them on your desktop. If you want your icons to be aligned to the grid, check
    Align icons to grid.

    Let us know what happens after.

    Removing desktop icons

    I want to remove some Icons from my desktop, but Vista asks for Admin permission to continue (I'm not an admin *Frown If I delete something from the desktop, but then arrange the icons the deleted item comes back :( ).
    It seems that whenever I delete one of these icons from my desktop, it is also removed from all the other user accounts. For example, I deleted the Skype icon from my desktop, and it was then removed from everyone elses as well.
    How can I delete icons from my desktop only, without affecting anyone elses?

    Vista - Weird error trying to delete Start Menu item

    It's probably just a registry entry - run registry cleaner. Or, try doing this; Open File Explorer, browse to \Windows\Start Menu and you'll see the icons there. Delete from this folder and that should remove it.

    If the deleted files is stil in Recycle bin, restore it then go back to start menu and delete the file the normal way.

    If you can't find the recycle bin...Right-click on your desktop and choose Personalize,
    click the Change Desktop Icons link in upper left hand corner. In the Desktop Icons Settings window, check the Recycle Bin box and click OK.
