I realized a while ago that I must have removed some songs from my previous iphone. Someone gave me a different iphone so i could update an app on a different iOS. I had backed up my previous iPhone prior. Then what happened was my old laptop started having problems, and i found that the recent iphone has a lot of songs missing that I have on the old system. Many songs are not on the cloud as they were purchased from other sources. These songs were backed up to an external hard drive and put onto the other system.I have seen that there are some articles that seem to list intructions to an exte

backing up old computer to new one

I purchased a new computer with Windows 10 and my current computer has Windows 7. I was considering putting the old hard drive into the new computer until I found a topic here where it wasn't suggested.

Users mentioned backing up the computer but there was no mention of software so I'm wondering what software do you use to transfer programs and documents from one computer to the next? Is the success transfer rate lower since it's transferring from a HP Windows 7 to a Cyberpower Windows 10 computer?

I have a WD external drive on the way large enough for a backup file to transfer to the new computer. Is there a free program that can be used? My new computer has a SSD which is new to me but I think I'll only upload the previous computer files to the main hard drive. One of my current external WD hard drives has a file labeled "Do your data recovery" but don't know anything about it and that drive doesn't have enough room to do a backup anyway.

Data transfer from old to new computer

The 'best' way is up to you. Here are three quick-and-easy ways to copy your data from PC to PC:

    • backup and restore
    • copy and paste to an external hard drive; copy and paste to the new PC
    • network transfer
Personally, I used none of the above when I did my clean install of Windows 10, because I store all my personal data on a separate partition. There was nothing to move; I merely 'took possession' of the data.

If you're in the habit making regular backups, the first choice is easiest.

Backup Old Computer to Brand New One.

Did you mean backup the data to the new computer or transfer the data to the new computer? To backup to the new computer means just to store a copy of the data on the new computer just in case the old computer dies, you will still have it stored away. To transfer the data to the new computer means to actually have it for use on the new computer. I've got a feeling what you are really asking is how you can transfer what you have on the old computer to the new computer so you can continue to use it.

There's a couple ways of doing that. You could just physically move the hard drive from the old computer to the new computer and try to boot from it. That would be the highest risk, though, of losing data on the hard drive if something went wrong, and I would highly recommend having a backup of the hard drive made before you attempt it.

Or, backup the C: drive (and any data partitions, which I doubt you have) using a program such as Macrium Reflect Free to an external USB disk. Then restore that backup to a partition on the new computer and set up dual booting. If everything works the way you want it to - the transferred Windows from the old to new computer boots up and everything is working, then you could delete the original OS from the new computer, if you wanted to.
