Windows 10: If i upgrade my laptop in built windows home to pro through ms store, will i get a OEM or...

I bought a hp laptop. it has "windows 11 home single language" in built. if i upgrade my "windows 11 home" to "Windows 11 pro" through microsoft store, will i able to transfer this liscence key to another pc? Or, can i use this SSD installed windows 11 to another pc? After upgrading my windows edition from home to pro, which version of key will i get? *OEM? or *Retail? please give me a answer

Windows 10 Pro Upgrade via MS Store

Hello,

If I am currently running Windows 10 Home (Its an OEM pre-installed Windows 10 that came with the laptop) and want to upgrade to Windows 10 Professional via the Microsoft Store Windows 10 Pro Upgrade. If I do this upgrade, is this upgrade to Windows 10 Pro only tied to my laptop? Or can I in the future move the Windows 10 Pro licence to another computer?

 

Upgrading a previously upgraded laptop to Windows 10 Pro

My client had bought a number of Lenovo laptops that had Windows 10 Home which we then upgraded to Windows 10 Pro by purchasing the upgrade license from the store. Worked fine...

However, I've had to re-install Windows 10 on one of them and the usual process I follow is:

• Install Windows 10 from USB stick downloaded from Microsoft
• This installs Windows 10 Home as expected as it's querying the BIOS to get the OEM key
• Use the widely published VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T key to install a trial of Windows 10 Pro
• On reboot and logging in using the account originally used to purchase the upgrade, Windows 10 Pro automatically activates

But on this one particular laptop, Window 10 refuses the key at step 10 and reports:





My suspicion maybe is that a different Microsoft account to the one I'm using was used to carry out the update. I've got the OEM key from the BIOS.

How do I approach Microsoft to see if they have any record of this OEM key being upgraded in their database and maybe which account was used?

Thanks, I don't need to transfer it though.

I only need to know if MS Account used for upgrading to Win 10 Pro is needed only once and we can forget about after OS has been upgraded e.g. after upgrading to Win Pro 10 will licensing/OEM information be stored in BIOS after wiping a laptop and we won't need to log in again using MS Account to upgrade again to Win 10 Pro. The idea is not to maintain that account
