    My new inspiron says it comes with all the software security i need, but it also came with a free trial of McAffee. Do i need McAffe or Norton to keep the computer more protected

    Did you (a) uninstall the Dell-preinstalled McAfee free-trial AND THEN (b) download/run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool & reboot (c) BEFORE you installed McAfee SaaS Endpoint Security on the Windows 7 computer?

    • Fact: McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not uninstalling (or upgrading) cleanly. The "leftovers" may be your troublemaker here.

    You need to uninstall McAfee with the help of their specific removal tool from this

    Please read

    After rebooting, install the Norton product.

    If you then want to switch back to McAfee, uninstall Norton with the help of their specific removal tool.

    Download and run the Norton
    Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product

    Using the "SymNRT" utility (Norton Removal Tool)

    Reboot, download the McAfee product from the McAfee website and install it.

    Of course you can also use the Anti-Virus program Windows Defender which is free and in-built in Windows 10.
