Windows 10: If update does not find version 1809, must I do a clean reinstall?

Hi, I'm at a university and my Windows 10 (version 1803) was installed on my machine using a DVD installation disk that is licensed to the university and that university employees can use to install the system. I want to update to the new Windows 10 (version 1809) but when I click "Check for Updates" it tells me I am up to date. I guess it does not see the new update.


Does this mean the new update is incompatible with my machine (Dell Optiplex 780, core 2 duo cpu, 16gb ram, about 8 years old I'd guess) or that I have to get the latest DVD install from the university?


I would not be surprised if the university's license with Microsoft prohibits downloading updates, but I would be surprised if the update was not compatible with my machine, given that 1803 is compatible.

WMP for version 1809...


My Windows 10 N, version 1803 had used Windows Media Player via installing it from the "Windows_MediaFeaturePack_x64_1803.msu" file.

Updating to 1809 removed the WMP and no longer available in the apps list:





There's an updated version listed at:

But clicking on the link and looking for the 1809 in the drop down list of versions does not show the media feature pack available for download for 1809; instead it shows version 1709 and 1803.

Does anyone have a direct link to WMP for Windows 10 N, version 1809?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
