Windows 10: If Windows updates while I'm AFK, and I have an unsaved txt doc open..

Is Windows smart enough to save these documents are no?

I've been AFK for just 15 minutes and vuola: "Please don't turn off your computer, windows is restarting to install updates". All unsaved work - gone.

I have not received any prompt, any notification - I was just 1 meter away from PC.
Enough is enough. I'm disabling windows update.
Morons.

 

Convert Note Pad Document to Windows 10 document

Notepad is a text processing program which can save your file as .txt.

There is nothing like Windows 10 document.

A .txt file will open on all systems.

It seems you want to convert this into .docx / .doc file i.e. Word file.

In this case, you would need to open the .txt file in Wordpad (installed on all Windows 10) or Word (installed if license bought and installed) and here you can save as .doc or .docx.

In Wordpad, you should choose Office Open XML document while saving to save as .docx. (You can save as rtf)

 

No. It will not save them.

If you use Notepad++ (or Word) it will make backups of your document every so often but if you are using Notepad it doesn't.

 

Just venting but that's ridiculous that MS wouldn't take the initiative to safeguard against this.
