If you cannot associate an extension to a program

Normally you right click on the desired extension and choose "Open With" and you get a selection to "Choose Another App." You can then select the App for for which the extension will be associated with-case closed. What if you right click and select the App but, cannot install it because Windows does not recognize the extension, yet it exist on your computer. That's what happened to me with RAF and RW2 extensions. I solved the problem by indexing the files. Then Windows 10 recognized them and I could proceed. No problem however, with Windows 7-go figure-progress.

    :)

  2. "Invalid value for registry" keeps .jpgs from opening on ANY local drive. Win 10

In Win10 all that needs to be done is to associate your file type (e.g .bmp, .jpg, .png, .tiff) to the program you want to associate it with as default. To do this do the following:

    1) in the 'Search the Web and Windows' box type 'default programs'

2)click on 'Default Programs' and then click on 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program'

3)scroll down the list of extensions until you reach the one you need to associate, then double-click on this extension

4)from the pop-up window that appears double-click the program you wish the extension to be opened with as default

If you cannot associate an extension to a program

I first enabled Windows 10 indexing. Then disabled it again after the recognition took place.
