  1. If you download an attached document to the USB drive on your computer, can it cause a virus?

Hello,I was sent an attached document by a neighborhood organization that I must download, but I'm not entirely comfortable that it won't contain a virus; if I download it and open it on the USB flash drive, now inserted in my laptop, can it cause a virus? Is it safer to download and open it on the USB drive than directly on the laptop? I have Windows Defender and the free Malwarebytes on my PC but am not sure how to scan with them on a USB drive. Thanks,Daffy D

    :)

  2. Document created in Office 2010 word cannot be copied from USB flash drive to new computer with same software

    Hi ximenapacull,

Restriction is one of the possible reasons why you cannot copy Word documents to your new computer. However, for us to fully identify the root cause, I need to gather additional information. Kindly answer the following:

    • Is this happening to a specific file?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • Have you tried using a different flash drive? If so, did you experience the same issue?
    • What is the current version and build number of your computer? To get the information, kindly follow the steps below:
      • Click on the Start menu.
      • Type winver.
      • Press Enter.

In the meantime, I suggest downloading the USB troubleshooter in this
    link
and then run it on the computer. Once done, check if you will still encounter the same issue.

Please post back with the result for further assistance.

  4. If you download an attached document to the USB drive on your computer, can it cause a virus?

File Explorer Shows Incorrect File Size when copying from USB to C Drive folder

    Hello Peter,

the issue might be caused if there is virus in the external drive (USB). I suggest you to perform a virus scan using Windows Defender or any other antivirus software installed (if any) in your computer and check for status.

If the issue still persists, then suggest you to update the USB drivers by following the steps provided below:

    • Press Windows + X keys and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Universal serial bus controllers.
    • Right click on the drivers and select Update driver software.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.

    Thank you.
