    I'm getting activate windows after the update even though I used a key in august


    I just updated my windows last night December 16th and I now am getting the activate windows message in the bottom of my screen even though I have had windows 11 since August and used a key.

    Windows 8.1 pro + WMC key activation

    This worked for me last time with a Win 8 key.

    Install Windows 8.1 and enter KMS key during setup. Once in windows change product key to my Windows 8 key. Go to add features and enter my WMC add-on key. Drink a beer to a job well done.

    Windows 10 activation key using windows 7 key

    Do you happen to know if your Windows 7 is an OEM or a retail version? For more information, check this answer of Andre Da Costa in this
    thread.

    For you to know the Windows key, follow the steps below:

    • On the Start menu, type Command Prompt.
    • Right click it, and Run as administrator.
    • Enter the following command:wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey
    • Hit enter and the product key will be revealed, copy the product key.

    Follow steps below to enter the produce key:

    • Click Start.
    • Click Settings.
    • Click Update & security.Activation.
    • Click the Change product key.
    • Then enter the new product key then click Next to Activate.

    Important W10 activation key questions left unanswered by Microsoft

    Not only that, you can check your M$ account and see what devices are listed there, so you know if you can do a clean install or not. Do the upgrade, get it activated, verify that it is listed in your account, then feel free to do a fresh install without activation issues ever.
