Windows 10: I'm haveing trouble disconnecting my external hard drive . cant trouble shoot?

I have an external hard drive connected on my pc through USB port . I ask to disconnect device and im told its opened need to close . Nothing is running.so I ran trouble shoot. nothing found . don't want to loose it its a 1t hard drive its always been plugged in and i just want it off to transfer to car for music.

Trouble accessing files on external hard drive

I am am having trouble accessing files from an external hard drive. Getting 0x80004005 error message and other errors "can not access files". I have shared and given permissions for all the files but still no luck

The external hard drive was one of a shared network of hard drives but I have been able to access all the others....

THoughts? Suggestions?

 

External hard drive not compatible with Windows 10

I am having the same issue. I've tried all of the steps listed but the problem still exists. The trouble shooting tells me there is a drive issue but when it tried to reinstall the driver it does not fix the problem. I don't want to buy a new external
HD and all of my data is on this one. Is there something else I can try or can I go back to Windows 8?
