Hello, my laptop was given to me used and, I've added new ram and salvaged a better wifi chip from an older laptop, but, my pc has been experiencing issues with crashing games and hang-ups so, i am thinking that windows and games freeze cause the laptop was dropped many times before i had it, and that maybe caused damage to the old hdd. I mean, the hdd isnt making any noise, and none of the files that i know of are broken/corrupt

I am getting a faster and more reliable ssd today or tomarrow and I'm hoping this will fix the issue to an extent, i know games crashing is probably cause i have a intel celeron 1017u mounted to the motherboard, but will the ssd fix the hang-ups and crashes? By the way, sometime the bsdblue screen of death can sometimes pop up saying "driver_power_failure" or something like that, which us why I'm also getting a fresh windows ten home edition install. If there are any awnsers I will be thankful, and i will awnser any questions.

    :)

M.2 SSD no longer being recognized

Yep. It would disable the m.2 since some motherboards have the SATA bus tied to the m.2 port.

    New PC in the spring

looking at the GIGABYTE GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 and 6700k. Definitely doing an M.2 SSD.

want to spend about $1800, parts as of today come to about $2500, so hopefully should drop by the spring.

    suggestions?

I'm hopefully getting a new SSD today, but I have a question

    Installing New SSD Questions

Hello, I am installing a new SSD in my younger brothers PC and just want to make sure that I know what I am doing before I do it. Against my better judgement he bought a prebuilt PC from bestbuy that didnt come with an SSD so naturally his OS is on a HDD,
my question is what are the steps I should take to move his windows OS to the new SSD, start fresh with just windows, but keep it so it is the full paid version of window and he dosent need another key. Please help me understand so I do not brick his pc, thank
    you.
