I factory reset my PC recently and have reinstalled a few of my old applications, including Sea of Thieves. Now that these are installed, Sea of Thieves is requiring me to "Ask an adult in my family if I can use it" Though, upon checking Microsoft Family Features, I'm not in a family in the first place On top of that, I am over the age of 18 and my actual birth date is given on the account. I've googled all over the place looking for a fix but it doesn't look as if many people at all are having this issue. If someone could help me out with this, that'd be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Microsoft Family Screen Time

    Hi Laurel,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community forum.

This could happen when the child account fails to sync with the server. I suggest you to try the steps listed below and check if it works:

    • Open
      File Explorer
and navigate to the following location:
    • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Parental Controls

      Note:
The above mentioned directory is hidden, copy and paste the same location on the search bar in the File Explorer to access it.
    • Delete the contents in the
      \\settings
directory of the Parental Controls folder.
    • Reboot the machine to see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, you may want to remove the child account from Microsoft family and add it again.

    • To know how to remove an account from Microsoft Family, refer:

Remove members from your family group
    • To know how to add an account to Microsoft Family, refer:

Add members to your family group

    Regards,

  3. Microsoft Family spurious "ask for permission" message

    Thank you for your reply.

I'm sorry to hear that you are facing the issue again.

Just to narrow down the issue, I suggest you to
    follow the methods mentioned below.

    Method 1

    1. Login to
      https://account.microsoft.com/family/
with the Microsoft Account and check if it says Adult/child account.
    2. After checking the credentials, see if it is part of a family then remove it from the family group and check the status of the issue.
If the issue still persists, refer method 2.

    Method 2

I suggest you to create a new user profile in Windows 10 and check the status of the issue.

Refer the article Create a local user or administrator account
    in Windows 10
    for the steps.
