  2. Ram and CPU shoot to really high usage when running small programs

    Hi

    Welcome to Microsoft community.

There could be several reasons why your CPU and RAM usage are spiking even when running small programs. Here are a few suggestions to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

    1. Check for malware: Run a full system scan using reliable antivirus software to ensure that your computer is not infected with any malware or viruses that could be causing excessive CPU and RAM usage.
    2. Update drivers: Make sure that all your device drivers, including graphics and chipset drivers, are up to date. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause high CPU usage.
    3. Monitor background processes: Use the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to check which processes or applications are using the most CPU and RAM resources. You can end unnecessary processes or applications that are consuming excessive resources.
    4. Check for system updates: Ensure that your operating system and software applications are up to date. Updates often include problem fixes and optimizations that can help improve system performance.
    5. Disable unnecessary startup programs: Use the Task Manager or System Configuration tool (type “msconfig” in the Run dialog box) to disable any unnecessary programs that automatically start when your computer boots up. These programs can consume system resources even when not in use.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.

If the problem disappears after performing a clean startup, you can use the steps in the link above to narrow it down and check which program is causing the disturbance.
    6. Adjust power settings: Your computer’s power settings may be set to prioritize power savings over performance. Adjust the power plan settings to a higher performance option to allow your CPU to run at its full potential.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.

    Best regards

  3. Pentium M

Not sure what I'm looking at. Though when I do go to Options and then CPU it lists my CPU
as Intel Pentium M processor 1.73 GHz, and then under that it lists speed: 799.9 MHz
and then features and cache size.I ran the benchmark test and don't understand all
those numbers, but while testing I checked CPUZ and it still says it is running at 800 MHz.

audiodg.exe using a lot of RAM and CPU

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing currently.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

    • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue?
    • Do you get any error code or error message while startup?
    • Have you made any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
Audiodg.exe [Windows Audio Device Graph Isolation] file hosts the audio engine for the operating system. So, this file is utilized for all the
audio processing and Digital Signal Processing (DSP). Vendors are able to install their own DSP and audio effects into the audio pipeline, which are then processed by audiodg.exe.

In order to fix the high CPU usage, disable the audio enhancements processed by the audiodg.exe file. To disable the audio enhancements, try the following steps:

    • Right-click the speaker icon in the right-hand notification area on the taskbar.
    • Select Playback Devices from the menu. A list of devices should appear on the screen.
    • Double-click the device that has a green checkmark. The properties windows for that device should open.
    • Click the Enhancements tab at the top.
    • From the list of enhancements, uncheck all of them, or click the Disable all enhancements
      checkbox.
    • Click the OK button to save your changes and close the window.
    • Click OK to close the Playback Devices window.
I also suggest you use Resource Monitor to monitor CPU usage.

Resource Monitor is a tool that you can use to monitor the usage of CPU, hard disk, network, and memory in real time.

You can use the Performance tab in Task Manager to see how your computer's CPU is being used by Windows and other programs running on your computer.

Hope the information helps. Please let us know if the issue persist and we will be happy to assist you further.
