Windows 10: I'm on a fresh install of Windows 10 / 20H2 - But I can't create a restore point, it says...

I'm on a fresh install of Windows 10 / 20H2 - But I can't create a restore point, it says "Access is Denied".


I tried running SFC & DISM, but no problems were found.


I reinstalled Windows 10 over an existing Windows 10 installation, so maybe a problem exists from a previous installation? If I had to guess, it may have something to do with C:\System Volume Information folder.


Please help.

Creating restore points automatically; can it be done?

It's good to see that you're interested to learn more about Windows 10 System Restore. Yes! There's a way for Windows 10 to create restore points automatically. All you have to do is to create your first restore point, then when something significant happens,
such as installing a Windows Update or a new application. See the steps below to learn how:

• Search for Create a system restore point.
• Click on Configure, then choose Turn on system protection and
  OK.
  
• Once done, choose Create, then type the description for restore point.

No restore points are created when updates are installed

Hi,

To address your concern let's run System restore on your computer.

To check if there is restore point already created:

• 
  Press Windows key +
  X, select System.
  
• 
  In the left pane, click on
  System Protection.
  
• 
  Select the option to
  system restore > next. It will show all restore points already created.
  

Note:

• On installation of an update, if there is restore point already created in last 72hrs, it will not create a new restore point.
• On installation of an application, if there is restore point already created in last 24hrs, it will not create a new restore point.

Use System restore to make restore points when you install a new app, driver, or Windows update, and when you create a restore point manually. Restoring won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore
point was made. To go back to a restore point:

• Right-click (or press and hold) the Start button, and then select
  Control Panel.
• Search Control Panel for Recovery.
  
  
  
• Select Recovery > Open System Restore >
  Next.
• Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select
  Next > Finish.
