"KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update", I get the error that winre.wim not found when I try to enable RE

After following "KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update", I get the error the error that winre.wim not found, when I try to enable RE.

KB5028997had me delete the RE partition and recreate it, so it is empty now. I copied a wim file to c:\windows\system32\recover but reagentc /enable still does not work.

    Help

This all started when I got an error error during WIndows Update that indicated I needed to increate partition size.

  3. How to hide recovery partition (/set partition as recovery type) after following KB5028997 instructions?

I solely created the F drive (as a partition of the C drive) to act as the recovery partition after following the instructions. At the time I believed this would create a new partition that was of the recovery type (as labelled in the list disk function of diskpart) and as such would not show up as its own individual 790MB drive hence the reason for asking a way to hide/ change the type from primary to recovery like what I had before following the instructions laid out in "KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update". So yes I would like to move the WinRE to the F drive and have the F drive listed as a recovery type so it is hidden.

KB5028997: Instructions to manually resize your partition to install the WinRE update

    Hello JoskeDP

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

The shrink desired=250 minimum=250 command in the context of disk partitioning would typically mean that you want to reduce the size of a selected partition by 250MB, assuming there is enough free space in the partition to do so. The desired parameter specifies the amount of space you wish to shrink the partition by, while the minimum parameter indicates the least amount of space by which the partition can be shrunk. In this case, both are set to 250MB, which means you are instructing the disk management tool to shrink the partition by exactly 250MB.

Regarding your primary partition (which, based on your presumption, is Partition 4), applying this command would reduce its size by 250MB. This operation is usually performed to create additional unallocated space, which can then be used for various purposes, such as creating new partitions or extending existing ones.

    As for the Recovery partitions:

    • Partition 1 (Recovery 450MB): This partition is likely created by the manufacturer or by Windows during installation. It contains recovery tools and files that are crucial for resetting your PC to its factory state or for repairs. It's generally not recommended to delete this partition unless you have a specific reason and are aware of the potential consequences, such as losing the ability to perform certain types of system recovery.
    • Partition 5 (Recovery 502MB): This is likely the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) partition you mentioned. The WinRE partition is used for troubleshooting and recovery purposes. Before you consider deleting this partition, you should ensure that you have a backup or another recovery solution in place.
Before making any changes to your disk partitions, especially deletions, it's critical to back up any important data. Deleting recovery partitions can remove vital recovery options and should only be done if you're certain it won't affect your ability to troubleshoot or recover your system in the future. If you're looking to resize partitions to accommodate the WinRE update, it's usually safer to resize your primary OS partition or another non-critical data partition, rather than deleting recovery partitions.

If there is anything that is unclear or I can't understand your problem, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards
