    I'm trying to find a simple program to back up the user files on my C: drive, disk-imaging...


    I have to copy all data on system drive to an external HDD before selling the computer. The data is spread so widely that I'll lose massive amount of files no matter how many hours I'd spend combing manually.

    7-Zip throws "access denied" errors (also when running as an administrator) and so will Windows if I just attempt to transfer the entire drive.

    Please recommend a program which saves the backup in a common archive format (.zip, .7z) or doesn't use any compression at all. The "Backup and Restore" feature especially seems prone to corruption and certainly not trivial to restore on another operating system. Compatibility with the Windows' safe mode may help a lot.
