I'm trying to set up a newly repaired lenovo and when I get to the make a pin screen and press make a pin, the screen goes into a wiring loop then nothing. A can't go any further.

Unable to set up Windows 10 Welcome PIN

Existing Win10 installation. I am trying to login from Welcome screen with newly created Microsoft account. Account and password appear to be accepted. Then I am asked to set up a PIN. That fails with error message "Something went wrong. We weren't able to set up your pin. You can try again, or skip this step and set up a pin later." When I click "Skip this step", it takes me back to the Welcome login screen.

Since I am unable to reach the Windows UI, I cannot use any of the repair methods that involve deleting the NGC folder or anything that uses the Windows UI.

When I try to use the repair procedure (shift-restart), an administrator account is presented and a password requested. I do not know the admin password so I cannot use any of these repair/diagnostic programs.

Is there a way around this?

 

OSK PIN login on non-touch device

Hello,

I suggest you to create a PIN for your device and try the on screen keyboard to login to the same.

You may follow the steps below to create PIN protection for your device.

• 
  Go to Settings and select account.
  
• 
  Click on sign in option and Go to PIN option.
  
• 
  Now click on Add and set PIN for login.
  

You can use the same PIN to login to your device using the on screen Keyboard from ease of access option and verify the result.

Cannot set up PIN after Creators Update

In this case, we recommend to repair and set up a new PIN by doing the following steps:

• Open File Explorer and browser to this location:
  

C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC

• Delete everything within that folder. You must be logged in as the Administrator to do this.
• Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options.
• Click Add a PIN again and set your PIN.
• PIN sign in should work moving forward.
