Windows 10: Image placeholders instead of thumbnails

    Image placeholders instead of thumbnails


    Lenovo Yoga 7 laptop, Win11 64-bit.I've noticed that on my new computer, whenever I wish to insert an image into an email etc, all I get to choose from are image placeholders with the filenames. No thumbnails. This makes it a bit difficult to choose the right image. What can I do to rectify this please?

    Picture ICONS instead of thumbnail pics

    Suddenly all of my picture thumbnails are ICONS, instead of thumbnail pics. I have gone through the steps of Unchecking a box that says "always show ICONS instead of thumbnails" and that did NOT help.

    I don't like Microsoft Edge or the Cloud, I think those are the culprits that keep doing this to my thumbnails.

    Many thanks for you reply. I have done all the steps you suggested, but no change,

    When I open a folder containing photos, some open correctly but the vast majority open with thumbnails, but they very quickly get overwritten and you can not longer see the thumbnails.

    Are there any more suggestions?

    Hi Myra,

    Let us further isolate your concern by answering the questions below:

    • Have you made any changes to the computer software prior to this?
    • Have you tried disabling the "Always show icon, never thumbnail" in
      "Folder and search options", to a different folder and check if the same thing happens?
    In the meantime, we suggest that you enable and then disable the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" option.
