Windows 10: Image shortcut thumbnails don't display?

    Image shortcut thumbnails don't display?


    One of my hobbies is archiving thousands of pieces of artwork I find online. I love to organize and spend hours sorting images into different folders by theme and media. The way I have it set up is every file has a home in an "ALL" folder, and every subsequent folder for themes and media have shortcuts of the files, as to not duplicate them.The problem then arises when those shortcuts don't show their thumbnails, or show up in the preview pane. This ruins the purpose of having these galleries to view and enjoy. If I open the images one by one into the Windows Photos viewer, then suddenly the t

    JPG Thumbnails of vertical JPG images are displayed as horizontal imag

    Suddenly, vertical JPG images show thumbnail images squeezed into horizontal thumbnail JPGs. RAW files are not affected and show vertical thumbnails as expected.

    I do have Sagethumbs installed, so that I can see JPG thumbnail images of PSD and TIFF files. No problems with thumbnail images from PSD and TIFF files.

    I uninstalled Sagethumbs and the problem persisted. So I don;'t think Sagethumbs is the problem.

    I have cleared the (File Explorer?) thumbnail cache and the Sagethumbs thumbnail cache and the problem persists.

    The problem occurs only in one image folder.

    Any ideas?

    File Explorer - Some PDF's show thumbnail image, some don’t

    In Windows 10 File Explorer, I see thumbnails for a few of my pdf files but still see the generic Adobe pdf icon for most of them.

    • In Windows 10 folder options, the checkbox for “Always show icons, never thumbnails” is unchecked.
    • On the Adobe Reader preferences general tab, “Enable PDF thumbnails previews in Windows Explorer” is checked.
    • Adobe Acrobat is set as my default PDF viewer.
    • I have used Disk Cleanup to delete all my thumbnails to clear and rebuild the cache, yet the problem persists.
    Any suggestions on how I can see all the pdf icons as thumbnails?
    Windows 10 Pro, Version 1903, Build 18362.657
    Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (20.006.20034)

    I asked over in the Adobe Acrobat Reader forum a few days ago but have received no replies.

    Image shortcut thumbnails don't display?

    Image thumbnails are not displaying

    I recently started using my Windows 10 laptop again and after updating it I noticed all the image files no longer display the thumbnails. The image thumbnails are replaced by blue mountains. The other Icons display properly. I checked the defaults and
    have photos selected.
