  1. Imaginary system files, 215 gb partition in file explorer is 342gb in windows settings

    Someone please help my sanity.

So my c: partition shows up in file explorer as having 104 gb of free space out of 215 gb, just as it should, with no ridiculous windows files, everything is fine. however, go into windows 10's storage settigns and it shows my c: partition as having 104 gb free out of 342 gb, with system files taking up 150 gb of that. So somehow windows is not only interpreting my partition as being 127 gb larger than the actual size of the partition itself, but it's computing the free space correctly at the same time?

Functionally this does nothing to me. i can trim a disk whenever i want through disk optimization, i can copy files to and from, no disk space is being eaten up by large windows files. however my ocd is killing me because there's somehow 127 gb of random data that literally doesn't exist, because windows 10 decided to make it up when analayzing my partition for me. The weirdest part is this happens only on the os drive.

Also if this helps, it happened once I added a windows 10 enterprise license key as this is primarily a workstation. And since it functionally doesn't change anything, I'm just going to live with it rather than reinstalling 300 gb+ of software and rewriting all my file paths from programs and file explorer shortcuts that are directed towards the data drives.

    TLDR;

My partition has 23 gb of system files, but windows is incorrectly reporting it in the os storage throught the settings app as 150 gb, whereas on a file system level, ssd block level, and file explorer, it is only 23 gb. Gotta love windows code ffs.

And, please, do not ask me to reinstall windows from scratch. If it was a functional problem then I would, but it isn't. I just want to know why this is happening and if it can be fixed or not, or if it is an inherent problem due to windows 10 code.

Edit: Should this be a help flair or bug flair?

Some files listed in Windows Explorer are blue font

I seem to have run out of room on a Windows XP Pro system. I tried to defrag but don't have but 7% room available. I looked in Windows Explorer to try to find some huge files that might be corrupt and I see a few that are listed in blue. What does that mean? I have not compressed anything on purpose. Thanks

Windows Explorer crashing due to large files

So I downloaded project reality a mob for BF2 I used uTorrent to download the file and it check to make sure it wasnt corrupt.

Everytime I try to do anything with the file windows explorer hangs and I have to restart it.

This is the same for the old version of project reality. I cannot delete it.

I have never had this happen.

The files in question are 1.8 GB

Imaginary system files, 215 gb partition in file explorer is 342gb in windows settings

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
