Windows 10: iMessage on Windows

I keep finding postings saying that there is there is no way to get your imessages and windows, but many of these posts are older. Has anything changed?

iMessage IS the default for iPhone messaging. Disabling iMessage requires a user asserted change in the Settings-Messages-iMessage (set to off).

But this is complete balogney that others cannot receive messages from an iPhone when this is turned on.

I work with a ton of iPhones, though admittedly do not own one, and I have never heard of iMessage only being a default. Are you saying that's a change with 7.0.2? That seems like a damaging change and wouldn't we have heard about it by now?

However, the story doesn't quite match here. iMessage doesn't work by checking with the other device if it's a valid iMessage target, it checks with Apple's servers to see if the phone number or email address is registered with iMessage. I mean, I receive messages
on my Lumia 920 from iPhones with no issue, including those on iOS 7.

The only thing I can think of right now is the usual issue we've seen with iPhone/Windows Phone switchers (if you are one): Was your phone number at any point used on an iPhone? If so, then it's possible that your phone number is still registered with iMessage,
so when Apple devices check in with iMessage, it comes back that your number IS a valid iMessage target.

If this sounds plausible, log into your
Apple Support profile, click your old iPhone and choose unregister.

You could also check if your phone number is registered with iMessage somehow by borrowing any iOS device or Mac with iMessage set up and typing your number into the "To" field. If the number turns red, it's not registered with iMessage. If the number turns
blue, someone has it registered with iMessage. This is best noticed on something other than an iPhone (like an iPod touch) so there's no possibility of SMS fallback.

EDIT: I noticed you made two threads about the same issue, so I merged them. Your additional sentence "I have family members on Android that receive SMS..." furthers my theory that your phone number is registered with iMessage.
