Import photos and preserving date created

HiRecently I use the import function of the Micrososft photo apps to import photos from phone to the PC . The created date is the date that the photo is being imported into the PC and not the date that the picture is taken. 1 month ago when I use the same import function, the date created and the date that the picture taken is the same, i.e camera date is preserved. Is there any photo app that allows me to preserve the date ?Thanks

    :)

  3. Photo import not saving in folders by month of date taken

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

If Photos is not sorting your imported photos into Year/Month folders based on the Date Taken attribute, you can try the following steps:

Open the Photos app on your computer.

Click on the "Settings" gear icon in the top right corner of the app.

Scroll down to the "Import" section and click on the "Advanced" link.

In the "Import Settings" dialog box, make sure that the "Group photos by time" option is selected.

Choose the "By month" or "By year" option from the drop-down menu.

Click on the "OK" button to save your changes.

Now, when you import your photos using the Photos app, they should be sorted into Year/Month folders based on the Date Taken attribute. If this does not work, you can try importing your photos using a different app or manually creating Year/Month folders in the Pictures folder and then dragging and dropping the photos into the appropriate folders

    Additional

You can try the following steps to import your photos to the Pictures folder based on the date taken attribute:

Connect your memory card to your computer and open the Photos app.

Click on the Import button located at the top right corner of the app.

Select the memory card from the list of devices and folders that appear.

In the Import settings, select the option "Sort into folders by date" under the "Import to" section.

Click on the Import All button to start the import process.

This should create folders in the Pictures folder based on the date taken attribute of your photos. If this doesn't work, you can also try importing your photos using the File Explorer. Here's how:

Connect your memory card to your computer and open File Explorer.

Navigate to the folder containing your photos on the memory card.

Select all the photos you want to import and right-click on them.

Click on the "Copy" option from the context menu.

Navigate to the Pictures folder on your computer and right-click on an empty area within the folder.

Click on the "Paste" option from the context menu.

Windows should automatically create folders within the Pictures folder based on the date taken attribute of your photos.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Import photos and preserving date created

    importing photos

Thank you for clearing that out. It looks like you are importing the files using the Photos app. When you import photos using this app, the files get imported into your Pictures library. To view these files, refer to these steps:

    • Open File Explorer.
    • On the list of folders on the left side of the window, click on Pictures. You shall see the photos imported from the SD card using the Photos app.

Another option you have is to import the files solely using File Explorer. Here's how you can do it:

    • Connect the SD card into the computer.
    • Launch File Explorer.
    • Click on This PC.
    • Locate your SD card under Devices and drives.
    • Double-click on the SD card.
    • Manually choose which photos to move into your local folders. Right-click on each photo and choose
Copy (Ctrl + C) then go to the destination folder then right-click on an empty space in the window and select
      Paste (Ctrl + V).
    • If you are importing all the photos, you can press Ctrl + A on the keyboard to select all of the files. Copy then Paste them into the destination folder.
    • If you are importing selective photos, hold the Ctrl key while clicking on the photos you want to copy. This will let you choose a number of photos instead of selecting all of them like what Step 7 suggests.

Once you're able to get the hang of the tricks, importing photos will not be a challenge anymore.

Tell us which method works best for you.

We're here if you need more help.
