Windows 10: Impossible to connect second screen / missing display settings

Hello everyone,


I have been experiencing this issue for a while and I would really appreciate any help to solve this !


I have a laptop with Windows 10 that I would like to connect to my TV via HDMI. I have done this before (like 3 years ago) with no issue whatsoever. However, this device is not being detected by my computer ! It is as if I didn't plug in anything at all !


Checking the display settings, I notice I am missing some options that I used to have. Specifically the screen settings (with the rectangles representing differents screens)





So, to recap :

• My TV is not being recognised by my laptop while it is recognised by my other laptop.
• Manual detection won't work.
• Changing projection settings doesn't do anything.
• The other laptop is running Windows 10 as well, it also has all of its display settings in place

Solutions I've tried already :

• Restarting computer, tv
• Updating Windows, updating display and monitor drivers
• Changing HMDI cables
• Changing HDMI ports on TV

I'm at a loss. Nothing works. If anyone has any leads on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Plugging in second screen makes built-in display + second screen go blank

1) Are you connecting the second monitor through the VGA or the HDMI port?

2) What is the make and model of the second monitor?



This issue could be caused due to some incorrect settings or due to an incompatible driver. I would suggest you to try these steps and check:



First, I would suggest you to check if you have configured the second screen correctly. It depends on which settings you have selected for the second monitor. You can extend, duplicate or choose only the second screen to be ON. If you have selected only the
second screen to be ON and if the second screen is not compatible, then both the screen might appear black. Refer to this article to check if you have configured the second screen correctly:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the graphic card driver from the manufacturer website and check, if it works. Refer to the following steps to uninstall the graphic card driver from the Device Manager.

a. Click on Windows key + X and then, select Device Manager.

b. Locate and expand “Display Adaptor” in the Device Manager Window.

c. Right-click on the “Display Adaptor” and click on “uninstall" the graphic card driver.

d. Restart the computer and check, if it works.

Laptop display does not detect itself

In regards to your concern, since the second screen can't detect the display settings of your other laptop, we suggest that you perform the steps below and see if it helps:

• Go to Settings.
• Click on System.
• Under System, choose Display.
• Under Multiple displays, click on Duplicate these displays and apply.
