MAIl app will not open from taskbar and neither will The Microsoft Store

I have always used my Hotmail mail account through the MAIL app from Windows but now when I click onto the icon on my taskbar it looks as though its going to load on the desktop but then nothing happens. I have searched the internet for a solution and
followed many suggestions to correct including running Windows Powershell as admin to remove the apps and then reinstall from Store but the store App wont open either from taskbar or from the menu list. Please can someone help?

 

Icons and Apps mixed-up in the taskbar!

I'm not sure this is the correct section to post this, as my issue is not exactly about customization: it is more about appearance.

Here is my issue: say I just started Windows 10 and no app is opened yet. Now I open an app by clicking on its icon in the taskbar, as I've previously pinned it to the taskbar for a quick and convenient access. The app launches, that's fine. Now if I launch 2 or 3 other apps the same way, my taskbar is now filled with:

_ icons of apps I've pinned into it
_ apps that are actually opened

All of this is normal, except that these 2 categories are mixed up together in the taskbar instead of being clearly separated. Instead of having the icons of pinned apps clearly and neatly positionned on the left of the taskbar, and then, on the right, the opened aps themselves, I have all these mixed up together. This is annoying and it didn't happened in previous versions of Windows.

How can I fix that?

Modern UI Apps all show "This PC" icon on taskbar

Whenever I open an app that is in the list of Modern UI Applications, its taskbar icon uses the This PC icon, not the correct icon for the app.

For example the two rightmost icons in this screenshot are actually open windows for Notepad and Spotify.





My Windows 11 does display the correct icon on the app window, on taskbar popup thumbnails and in the system tray. If I pin a Modern UI app to the taskbar, it shows the correct icon. BUT when I open the app, a second icon appears on the taskbar for the app's window and this second icon is, you've guessed it, the This PC icon.

I have tried the usual remedies like restarting Explorer, rebooting the PC and pinning and unpinning apps but none have cured the behaviour. Could this be a corrupted registry setting, and if so does anyone know where to find it and what the defaults are?
