Windows 10: In need of help getting windows 8.1 on the laptop

NEED HELPMy dad brought my mum a laptop before he passed away so its centymental .it was originally on windows 8.1 one but she said she got the free upgrades as well. I have replaced the hard drive as it was broken ,but she can not find her disk. How would I go about get a disk or is there another way ?? Round this disk and when I do get the op system disk of file will it ask me for a product key ?

Need help with Windows 8 laptop not connecting to internet..  

This is Windows 8.1, but a lot of the directions/menus don't even have what I've seeing suggested on other sites I've found by googling directions, or some of what I see here. I can't take snips of everything, well I guess I could, but I'm glad I skipped Windows 8 and went straight to 10 when upgrading my Win 7 laptop. This one I'm working on is a friends and I'm almost and the end of my rope. There has to be some steps to take on this particular laptop that I am not finding.
