  1. In "Speach" settings, "Get started" button under the "Microphone" title is grayed out. Why?

I wanted to set up the dictate function. System tells me that polish is not a supported language. I went to change it in settings. Everything in the speach section is grayed out, I can only add a new voice pachages. Setting up my microphone again + changing the microphone, changing my region + language and frantic clicking at the grayed out buttons did not work. Any ideas what I am missing?

    :)

  2. setting up microphone for speech recognition

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern as you are trying to setup speech recognition on the PC.
In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below.

    • What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type
      winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • When you say that “the box is grey and unresponsive”, where you are seeing this option?
    • Are you able to connect the microphone to the PC? (Does it show in Device Manager)

Meanwhile we would suggest you to perform these steps and check if you are able to setup the microphone.

Steps to set up a microphone: Before you set up Speech Recognition, make sure you've plugged the microphone into your PC so the following steps work.

    1. Press Windows + Q or click on the Windows Search.
    2. Enter Set up a microphone in the search box, and then tap or click
      Set up a microphone.
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
    4. Once you are able to setup the microphone and then check if it’s working.

Start Menu -> Settings -> Grayed Out Buttons

Thanks for the reply, Phil. Unfortunately, that doesn't help either. It still goes back to the dark screen every time I restart, or the computer goes into Sleep mode.

Does anybody have an idea of how to activate that grayed out Apply button in Start Menu -> Settings?

Cortana Speach recoginition.. Microphone option not found.

    Hi Valentin,

Follow the steps below and check if that helps.

    Cortana can’t hear me

If Cortana doesn’t respond when you speak into your PC, this might be why:

    • Your microphone may be not be set up. In the search box on the taskbar, type
set up a microphone, then select Set up a microphone and follow the prompts.

In "Speach" settings, "Get started" button under the "Microphone" title is grayed out. Why? th?id=OSAS.jpg
    • You may not have a microphone. In the search box on the taskbar, type
      Manage audio devices
and select the result. Go to the Recording tab of the box that appears. If you have a microphone, you’ll see it listed here.

I suggest you to refer the below article and try the mentioned troubleshooting methods. Check if that helps:
