Windows 10: In Storage - Should I click 'remove files' in 'downloads' from 'temporary files' ?! Its...

when i click - 'storage' - 'temporary files' - in 'downloads' - its showing space of around 11 GB and its written - 'Warning: These are files in your personal downloads folder. Select this if you'd like to delete everything. This does not respect your storage sense configuration.'Since its written 'warning' - I'm asking - If i click 'remove files' - will my temporary files of downloads be deleted only? I mean, if i do this, Will i able able to access and see my 'files in downloads' folder?!Please advice - should i click 'remove files' or 'should i just let it be' ?Also, if 'remove files' is no

Unusual Option for Removal of Temporary Files for System/Setting/Storage/This PC/Temporary Files

Hello,

I have Windows 10 version 1803 on HP Spectre x360 laptop with a SSD drive, 232 GB.

I have 170 GB of free space. There are no saved documents, pictures or videos.

I have only installed apps and software installed when I purchased the laptop.

My question is:

When I go to Windows Setting, select System, select Storage, select Local Storage/This PC, Storage Usage displays, select Temporary Files showing 423 MB from the selections offered.

Upon selection for Temporary Files, it opens - shows listings for the Remove Temporary Files.

Two particular selections/options to remove files concern me.

These are:

Deletes all system restore points - 4.28 GB

Compress your OD drive - 13.7 GB

These two are not checked for removal, rather they are highlighted in White.

Why are these particular two items are being displayed?

Will these eventually disappear or remain forever?

Any suggestions, recommendations or advice to these questions would be greatly appreciated.

 

Settings>System>Storage/Local Storage>Temporary Files?

Looks like you are on version 1803. I have just checked on an 1803 system and can confirm that the contents of your Downloads folder are included in the total size of 'Temporary files' even though they do not appear in the list of locations you can clear. So it looks like your 'missing' 3.7xGB will be found in your Downloads folder.

Starting with version 1809, the populated list when you left click on Temporary files now includes your Downloads folder.

 

Storage - Temporary files = C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download ?

FYI: I ran CleanMgr+ (portable freeware)



If you've used any utilities to disable/ control windows updates then cleanup won't work.
