Windows 10: In Windows 10 after Feature update my user profile folder is now at C:\Users\TEMP

After my PC with Windows 10, installed "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809". It asked to restart.
After restart my user profile folder switched to "C:\Users\TEMP".
Because of that my Desktop, Documents, Downloads etc., all folders were empty. My Browser's History and recent files history was gone.

When I checked my original user profile folder, named after user I am logged in. All files exist there.
How can I switch to my old profile folder.
Please Help.

Need help with changing name of user profile folder


I would like to change the name of the user profile folder. I have found and tried a few methods including one from Microsoft forums. None of them worked. I kept getting something about my User needing to sign out and back in again that there was a problem, so I would sign out and back in again and it didn't work. I think the reason is because Windows created a TEMP user and would log me in under that so there would be a folder named C/User/TEMP and still the original named folder of C/User/myuserfolder.

The instructions are very similar to what I have tried. In the above post John W used safe mode. Do I need to go through all the steps again as listed in the post and then go into safe mode, or can I just use safe mode to change the folder name?

Also, are there newer instructions for how to do this with updates to Windows since the above thread was posted over a year ago?

Windows 7 - change user temp folder.

Hi all,
i would like to change user temp folder, becausze i can't install Nero. How to do that? I know how to change Windows temp folder, but not user.

 

User Profile Service failed

To resolve your concern, we suggest that you follow these steps:

• Copy the Default folder (in C:\Users) from another windows 10 computer.
• Rename the Default folder to something like DefaultOLD (just to keep it for safety reasons).
  
• Paste it in your Users folder.
• To make sure that you won't have problems with permissions of the "implant" folder, just transfer it via a FAT/FAT32 formatted USB stick (those filesystems don't have permissions).

This will provide solution to the error User Profile Service failed.
