In Windows 11 I'm trying to open a task using Windows 11 Task Scheduler to wake the computer and then do a Norton 360 AV Quick scan, but while the task runs fine to wake the computer the AV scan never starts. Any suggestions?

Task Scheduler Not Waking Home Use Windows 11 From Sleep

Hi!

I'm trying to make Task Scheduler follow a schedule to:

1. Wake my laptop
   
2. Open Thunderbird.exe
   
3. Bring Thunderbrid.exe to the foreground
   

Problem

• The scheduled task only runs after I manually wake my laptop from sleep
  
  (Not sure if related to the root cause of the issue: Sometimes the Windows Clock App opens as I manually wake my laptop from sleep. When this happens, the Clock App launches before Thunderbird.exe)
  
• Task Scheduler's history tab has no logs for scheduled tasks that were missed because the laptop didn't wake up
  

Steps I Took

• Restart laptop
  
• Run power troubleshooter
  
• Update virtual network adapter enumerator
  
• Disable hibernation
  
• Disable fast start-up
  
• Make sure the maintenance schedule does not clash with the task's schedule
  
• Make sure Power Options - Sleep - Allow wake timers - Both Enabled
  
• Make sure Windows updates are up to date
  
• Make sure the scheduled task is viewable on powercfg -waketimers

Other Details

• Sleeping state in use: S0 Low Power Idle
  
• Always using the account with admin rights
  
• No account password - When I wake my laptop from sleep, it automatically shows my desktop
  
• Always connected to AC power

It seems like you have taken several troubleshooting steps already. However, there are a few additional things you can try:

• Make sure that your computer's BIOS/UEFI settings are configured to allow wake timers. Look for options related to power management and wake timers and ensure they are enabled. Back up all your personal files in advance to ensure you do not lose data.
  

• Enable the “Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed” option under the Settings tab for your scheduled task.
  

• Try creating a new scheduled task to open a different application, such as Notepad.exe, to determine if the issue is specific to Thunderbird or the scheduled task, t. See if the new task is able to wake your laptop and open the application as expected. If it works, the problem may be related to Thunderbird or its configuration.
  

• Try checking if the high precision event timer is enabled and running under device manager. Another thing you could try is to check the Event Viewer for any events related to the system clock synchronizing with the hardware clock. Sometimes this can result in the time being set to a point after the scheduled run time so the task does not run.
  

If the problem persists, it may be beyond the scope of issues that Microsoft Community can address. Cannot Get Task Scheduler to wake or sleep (Win 11)

I've meticulously set up Task scheduler to wake and sleep my Desktop. I use the following scripts:



But they are not working. Any help appreciated!
