  1. In Windows 11 Notepad, how can I change the spellcheck language?

Whenever I write a wrong word in English, right-click it, open the Spelling drop-down menu - I only get Swedish alternatives for words, not English ones. How can I change it so that it provides English alternatives instead? Or in both languages? Thanks.

    :)

Windows 8.1 update changed the language, can't change back

Maybe, these will help... it seems it is a common enough problem.

Language packs are no longer available after you upgrade to Windows 8.1

And, sort of the same here --> Add a language or keyboard

Quote from above MS web page:

Spoiler Download and install language packs
You'll need to download the language pack if you want to make a language your Windows display language (that's the language you see most often in Windows and apps).
    • Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
    • Tap or click Time and language, and then tap or click Region and language.
    • Tap or click a language that says Language pack available underneath, and then tap or click Options.
    • Tap or click Download. The download process might take a while, depending on your PC and the size of the language pack.
If you want to make this your display language, see the next section "Change your Windows display language".
    Change your Windows display language
To change your Windows display language (that's the language you see most often in Windows and apps), first add a language, download and install the language pack, and then follow these steps.
    • Tap or click the language that you want to set as your display language.
    • Tap or click Set as primary to move the language to the top of the list. If the language can become your Windows display language, you'll see Will be display language after next sign-in appear under the language.
    • Sign out and then sign back in to finish.
And here is some more info --> Add Language Packs to Windows

Spellchecking is no longer finding the right word

    Hi there,

In whatever desktop app I use, Chrome, Firefox, Discord, that uses the system's spellchecker, I never get the right suggestions.

    • I've uninstalled and reinstalled my english languages packs,
    • i've turned off and turned on spellchecking

It was not always like this, it uses to work well a while ago.

I've been busy the last couple of weeks to dive into this, but I'm still wondering what the issue is.

I'll try to add a screenshot to illustrate my issue:

  4. In Windows 11 Notepad, how can I change the spellcheck language?

Does windows 11 spellchecker only apply to windows apps like Word.

    Hi, Bruce Singleton

    Welcome to the MicroSoft Community.

I’m glad to hear that the spellchecker is working again on your Windows 11 system. The Windows 11 spellchecker is not limited to Windows apps like Word. It should work system-wide, including in third-party applications like Notepad, WordPad, and even web browsers like Edge. The spellchecker relies on the operating system’s language settings and the language pack installed.

I can't elucidate how it works for you and I think there may be a few reasons for rebooting back to normal:

    1. Temporary file removal: When you restart your computer, the system will automatically remove some temporary files and cached data, including the temporary files generated by Windows Input Method during the running process. These temporary files may sometimes cause problems with the input method, including the spelling suggestion function not working properly. Clearing these temporary files can help the input method return to normal operation.

    2. Reset system services: When you restart your computer, the system will reset some services, including those related to Windows Input Method. This can help fix some input method problems caused by wrong settings or service failures, including the spelling suggestion function not working properly.

However, you don't need to think about it too much, if the input method spelling suggestion function fails again, you are welcome to post in the forum again, I am very happy to do my best to help you solve the problem.

    Best Regards
