  2. Automatically log off and *close* Windows 10 user session

My wife will leave the PC without logging off and then the machine will lock due to inactivity but not sign her off. I also use this PC and sometimes need to dial in to a VPN that does not allow for other sessions running on the machine. Is there a way to have Windows log off and close an inactive session (not just lock it)?

  3. how to force closing program when log off (remote desktop connection)

There are two ways to terminate a Remote Desktop session:

    • By logging off. This will close all active applications.
    • By closing the session. All active applications will remain open. This is by design.
If you wish to close an orphaned application then you can do it with a scheduled command that runs once every ten minutes. It would use one of these commands to determine if there was an active Remote Desktop session:

    query session

    query user

If no live session was present then it would use taskkill.exe to kill the unwanted application. Unsaved data would be lost.

Windows 10 Logging off under 2 minutes of inactivity

    Hi,

I realize that the computer is logging off if it is under 2 minutes of inactivity. I will try to help you with this issue.

    • Is the issue specific to this user account?
You may run the Power troubleshooter and restart the computer to check if this helps.

    • Press “Windows key + X” and click on “Control Panel”.

    • Click on “Troubleshooting”.

    • Click on “View all” and select “Power”.
Follow the on-screen directions to run this troubleshooter completely. Once this is done, restart the computer and check the status.

Further you may also follow these steps to reset all default power plans to default settings:

    • Open a command prompt.

    • In the command prompt, type “powercfg –restoredefaultschemes” and press Enter.

    • Close the command prompt.
Remember to restart the computer to check if that helps.

Keep us updated to help you further.

    Thank you.
