Incensing critics, Google engineer ends push for crypto-only setting in Allo
Updated personal blog post deletes comments that were cited by Google critics.

A co-leader on Google's product security team has waved a piece of red meat in front of already frothing privacy advocates by deleting part of a blog post saying he wished the Allo messenger app the company announced Wednesday would provide end-to-end encryption by default.

To critics, the deletion by Thai Duong amounted to tacit admission that his employer was willfully choosing to leave messages sent by the vast number of Allo users open to government surveillance. The critics have argued that because end-to-end encryption will be turned off by default and turned on only in an incognito mode, most users will never avail themselves of the protection.

In a blog post published shortly after Wednesday's announcement, Duong said the move would benefit people who want their messages to be processed by an artificial intelligence agent that would offer auto-replies based on the content of the messages. A built-in digital assistant, for instance, might automatically suggest nearby restaurants or available movies when parties are making plans, but only if the encryption feature is turned off. Then Duong went on to say something that he later deleted from the post

"The burning question now is: if incognito mode with end-to-end encryption and disappearing messages is so useful, why isn't it default in Allo?

I wish it's the default (because it's my feature haha *Smile, but even if it is not default all is not lost. I can't promise anything now, but I'm pushing for a setting where users can opt out of cleartext messaging. Basically with one touch you can tell Allo that you want to "Always chat in incognito mode going forward," and from that moment on all your messages will be end-to-end encrypted and auto-deleted. You can still interact with the AI, but only if you explicitly invoke it, so you don't have to give up everything for your privacy gain."

How do I change the search provider in Internet Explorer

Microsoft must leave the end-user the choice.

End users haven't to be concerned by agreements made by operators.

Don't force the users to use Google only. Don't force the customers to use Bing only.

I paid for a telephone. So let me do what I want with it. I have the right to choose the default search engine I want.

Real competition is the success of the search engine freely selected by most users. Not the one imposed by operators/OEM.

There are strict competition rules for this. They protect the customers' freedom of choice.

So leave the choice in the settings. Thanks.

Alarm clock WinPhone 8

Sorry fellas, I missled you. Actually WP8 wake up alarm has NOT any kind of possibility to adjust the volume! It works with fixed, loud, volume only. This was found out when I tried to find acceptable volume/ringtone for the alarm.

I am criticizing Nokia generally as they chose the OS which is lacking of these standard features. And I am criticizing Nokia because they didn't push MS to do their job properly (surely Nokia has tested the WP8 before the launch). And afterall, there reads
Nokia in the phone I am using. Wouldn't you chriticize Chevrolet if your Chevrolet Spark engine fails, even if the engine was manufactured by Daewoo? And why I am criticizing? Because this is the only thing I can do to try Nokia to push MS to do the fixes,
as it seems MS can do nothing about it by themselves (referring to the launch of Windows Phone over 2 years ago, and still there are so amateuristic standard feature lacks). And yes, I have voted in Windows Phone development pages, but I am afraid will there
be any MS representatives reading it...
