Windows 10: Inconsistent internal HDD data transfer speed

Hello,I'm getting inconsistent internal HDD data transfer speeds. The speeds go up and down and sometime pauses at 0 mb/s for a few seconds. Never seen this before. Using Windows 11. I actually have a X670e motherboard. It was happening on this board and I thought it was the board at first. swap to another new board but same board, problems persist. I have multiple internal HDD, and the issue is not isolated to a specific HDD. Installed new Corsair Dominator RAM and the cpu is new with the Ryzen 9 7900x.I'm thinking its probably something I need to troubleshoot in Windows 11. Thoughts? Thank

Slow data transfer speed.

Hi,

One of the possible reason that this issue occurs is due to the driver compatibility after Windows upgrade. For us to isolate the issue, we’ll need the following details:

• What type of data transfer speed are you referring to? Is it internet connection speed or file transfer speed?
• If you are referring to file transfer speed, are you using USB drive or Bluetooth to process file transfer? or,
• If you are referring to internet connection speed, are you using Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi?
• Can you tell us any troubleshooting you've done so far?

Transfer to internal HDD is slow, while Task Manager and Explorer show very different file transfer speeds

Hi all,

When transfering a large amount of data (all files > 5MB), the transfer rate to my internal HDD starts of at around 100MB/s, but slows to about 40/50MB/s after about a minute. I'm not sure why this happens.

However when looking at Task Manager in W10, the transfer speed to disk is still indicated as around 100MB/s.

I was wondering why these values are different and which value indicates what, exactly?

Slow HDD read and write speeds

We will require a few more information from you to help you further with the issue. Please reply with the following details:

• In which device are you facing this issue?
  
• Are you using an external HDD or internal HDD?
  
• Are you getting the read and write speed issue on any particular application?
  

However, you can Disk Defragment on your computer to optimize the drive. To run Disk Defragment please follow the steps from the article

Defragment your Windows 10 PC.

Alternatively, you can check for the read and write speed of the HDD in task manager. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check the read and write speed of the hard drive:

1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc key together on the keyboard.
   
2. Click on Performance tab.
   
3. Click on Disk 0.
   
4. You will find the Read speed and
   Write speed at the bottom of the window.
