Windows 10: Incorrect Icon being displayed for one particular app

HI


Nothing like Windows 10 to bring out the OCD in you! I have a rather insignificant but equally as annoying issue. One of my apps I use on a semi-regular basis - Lavasofts Song Sergeant, to tidy up my music collection has randomly decided to alter the desktop shortcut icon from its regular one to some kind of generic one picture attached. I have experienced such issues in the past and normally resetting the icon cache resolves this issue, but no such luck this time.


Things I have tried:


1. Uninstall/Reinstall software.

2. Running CCleaner

3. Running Command line's SFC /SCANNOW and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

4. Installing the software on another PC and trying to replicate the issue. Not able to.

5. Unable to select Change Icon in icon properties as its greyed out to manually fix.

6. Running various apps/.bat files suggested for fixing and resetting icon cache.


I steadfastly refuse to do a complete Windows 10 reinstall to fix one miserable icon, any ideas out there?

Thank you for keeping us posted and we appreciate your patience. Let me assist you further from here.

Since some of the icons do not display correctly, I suggest you to rebuild the cache icons in Windows and check if it helps.

• Press Windows key + X, select
  Command prompt (Admin) to bring up elevated Command prompt.
• Type in the following commands till the computer restarts by itself.

ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache

taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F

DEL "%localappdata%\IconCache.db" /A

shutdown /r /f /t 00

Icons from apps aren´t displayed correctly

Do the apps work fine apart form the icons not displaying correctly? If so I would suggest you to run an SFC scan and check if it helps. If the issue persists you may run DISM command and check.

Follow this steps:

    Press Windows+X.
    
  • 
    Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
    
  • 
    Type the command SFC /SCANNOW and
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit
    Enter.

Incorrect Icon In Taskbar

Try to reinstall Adobe reader. Or fix the installation.
