    Incorrect Windows 10 password when logging in


    Hi guys!

    I have a very weird problem which I'll try to summarize as clearly as possible.

    I have upgraded to Win10 from 8.1 using the free upgrade option. Back then I was using the old hotmail account password. Since it was converted to a Microsoft account, Windows says that my password is incorrect during login (good thing I've my PIN set up)

    Problem is that my Windows 10 account is displayed as @HOTmail.com whereas my Microsoft account is @gmail.com

    How do I change accounts from within Windows 10?

    My laptop runs on Windows 10 Home Edition. I cannot login to my desktop using my password. It says "incorrect password". But this is the ONLY password I use on the device. Pls help.

    Incorrect Windows 10 password when logging in

    A Hotmail account is also a Microsoft account. If you sign in to Windows 10 using your Hotmail account, you need to use the Hotmail account password. If signing in with Gmail account, you have to use Gmail password.

    Actually, when signing in with an MSA account tied to a gmail (or any other non-MS email), you need to use the password you created when you created the MSA account. This is not necessarily your gmail password, unless you used the same password for your gmail account when you created the MSA account.

    The MSA account only uses the email as a username, and does not authenticate against the non-MS email service.

    Also note that if you change your gmail password, it won't be reflected in your MSA account using the gmail ID, you will also have to change the MSA password if you want them to be the same.
