Windows 10: Indexed mails windows search from Microsoft Outlook from .ost and .pst not open from...

I have Windows 10 with Microsoft Office 2021 try 2019 version too - Outlook mailbox in .ost and .pst files. Windows Search indexed Microsoft Outlook. In searches c:\users\"account"\searches\Indexed Locations see all files, mails and attachments from mails. Files from hard disk open, but mail items not recognize by left and right clicks. Additional if try open attachments items from mail its trying open by application mapi url start with mapi16:// with errors "Cant open". Trying opening mapi url mapi16:// in Mozilla browser saying "mapi16:// "Interface not supported". So seemed mails al

How do I include closed .pst files in the Windows (10) search index?

Thanks, I knew how indexing works in Windows. What I need is the contents of .pst and .ost files that ARE NOT OPEN IN OUTLOOK, to show up in a Windows or an Outlook search.

 

Copy Outlook .ost file to an offline device

If you are the owner of the Exchange profile, you can configure your account in the Outlook in the new computer and simply download the mailbox data from the Exchange server. But if you want to transfer OST file data
to another user, you can convert OST to PST and then transfer it to the new computer. The new user can import the PST file to his mailbox.

Let’s start the process:

Step 1- Locate OST in your system

To locate an OST file in your system, follow the below-mentioned steps:

Open Control Panel and click on Mail.

Select Email Accounts in the “Mail Setup” dialogue box.

Now, go to the Data Files tab and select the desired account.

Click on Open File Location to know the location of the OST file.

The location of your PST file will be opened

Step 2- Convert OST to PST

In this step, you need to convert OST to PST. Though you can export OST mailbox data to PST using
the Export feature of Outlook and you can use any third party OST to PST Converter.

 

Exclude PSTs from Windows Desktop Search Indexing in Windows 10 when they are not open in Outlook 365

Win10/22H2/O365 2302. I have about a dozen PST files that I do not want Windows Desktop Search to index, to keep the index EDB a reasonable size. Historically, I thought WDS did not index PSTs unless they were open in Outlook, but I've noticed recently that WDS is indexing everything, resulting in a very large index, despite (1) the PSTs are not open in Outlook and (2) the folder where the PSTs are stored is not included in the indexed locations.

Is there any way to systematically exclude these PSTs from the index? I noticed they are all listed under the registry key HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-96414999-1499730031-444732941-29377\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Search\Catalog, so I could conceivably try just deleting them there, but I'm not finding any public documentation of S-1-5-21-96414999-1499730031-444732941-29377 and am hesitant to start monkeying with regedit without any guidance.
