  1. Indexing vanished on a single partition

Using Win10 a total lack of 'search' ability on my E: drive led me to rebuild indexing without a careful look. Rebuilding did not achieve anything.Only later did I realise that despite my E: drive being included ticked in my selected locations on the right that it was missing in the list on the left. There was nothing I could do to have E: included on the left. See Pic below. The other weird thing is, as a test, I tried unticking some on the right to watch the effect on the left. Generally the result was as expected, however, when I unticked both E: and F: neither correctly appeare

    :)

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

  3. Indexing is not working

    Hi Doc,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

This issue may occur due to corrupt Windows search files or settings. I suggest you to follow the below method and check if it helps.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run search and indexing troubleshooter
and check. Please follow these steps:

    • Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.

    • Click troubleshooting in the search results.

    • Click "View all" and then click "Search and Indexing".

    • Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

Method 2: Check if Indexing and Windows Search services are enabled. If not, enable them, if they are already enabled, then disable Windows Search Service and then enable again and restart.

    • Press Windows key + R.

    • Type services in the run box, go to the Windows search services and restart them.
    Hope it helps.
