Windows 10: Information of drive errors for the future

So recently I encountered a problem on my PC in which my audio would not work and I was unable to open most apps apart from a few options/settings apps. I then spotted the "Restart to repair driver errors" message so I proceeded to research how to fix it.


Nothing I tried fixed the issue, such as running CHKDSK or DISM and a restore to a previous point. After trying all of these I eventually gave in and sent it back to the company it was purchased from. They are currently fixing whatever was wrong with it so I don't have a problem anymore.


However, I need to know how to avoid this in the future. One day it was working fine, I turn it off, and the next it is completely unusable. Any information on a possible fix would also be appreciated however, I did try almost everything I found online. As mentioned above CHKDSK did absolutely nothing and both DISM and a restore to a previous point always failed. Not only that but both my Dell update and Windows update apps all failed whilst looking for updates. If it was a driver problem I don't think I had anyway of fixing it due to the update and device software constantly failing, as well as the inability to use any websites because no common apps(such as Chrome or Internet Explorer) would open.


How can I avoid all of this in the future?

CD drive error

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

UpperFilters
LowerFilters
UpperFilters.bak
LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

And it likely has something to do with the emulated drive you have listed there.
