Windows 10: Inplace upgrade of Server OS on a SQL 2012 Database server

We have an SQL database server version 2012 which is running on server OS 2012 R2. We want to upgrade the Server OS to 2019 and later upgrade SQL to version 2016.Wanted to know whether it was safe to do an inplace upgrade of the server OS 2012R2 to Server OS 2019. Is this safe considering that the SQL application is running on it? or is the best option be to install a separate new server with Server OS 2019 and then backup and restore the SQL catalogues to the new server.

Downgrade of SQL Server 2017 to SQL Server 2012

Please suggest me how can i get the licence for SQL Server 2012.

Currently we have SQL Server 2017 Volume licencing.

KB4284815 for Windows Server 2012 causes SQL Server problem and Remote Desktop access problem

After installing KB4284815 the June cumulative rollup update on my Microsoft Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2012 Express hosted on this server, has no communication to applications which use database tables. The database was not accessible from any domain connected
workstations and their applications.

The error message was [DBNETLIB] ConnectionOpen [Connect()] SQL Server does not exist or access denied. This error can be demonstrated using a UDL

file (just create a text file, rename it to a UDL extension). Open it. On the Provider tab choose your usual SQL provider (I am using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) and on the Connection tab, try to navigate to your server and database instance.
(I am using Windows NT integrated security). You will get the error when you click the Test Connection

It was accessible using SQL Server Management Studio, if logged in on the Server 2012 desktop. Also broken was Remote Desktop access to the Server 2012 from a VPN client.

Uninstalling the KB and rebooting the server restored users ability to use our applications that connect to the SQL databases.

 

Upgraded to Windows 10 and now SQL Server 2012 cannot connect to the server

Hi,

I upgraded to windows 10 but now have issues with SQL Server Mangement Studio 2012.

When it opens it has the Server type as database engine then the server name xxxx\SQLEXPRESS and the authenication as windows authentication, where xxxx is the name of my laptop.

I click connect then get the message below,

Cannot connect to xxxx\SQLEXPRESS

Additional information:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible.

I have looked on the net for answers but nothing has helped. I have checked the Sql Service Browser is running. So don't know what to do next??
