Windows 10: Input capable field prefilling with repeating character group or placing number before...

After the. latest Windows update, I started having problems on my desktop pc. Input capable fields will either fill with 1~ or insert a 1 into the field before the first typed character. This normally only happens during the first try to enter characters into a field. When creating a folder, instead of New Folder it will fill the field with 1~1~1~1~ to the field limit. When New Folder is displayed properly, a 1 is placed as the first character of the input string. Passwords, PINs, search terms and other fields will get a 1 inserted. ie: Password field: 1mypassword This causes an error on the first try but does not place the 1 in the field on the second try.


Is there a fix for this problem? Has it been reported by anyone else?

In Windows 10, there are times when I open an Outlook message and the message box begins displaying repeated characters which do not stop till I close out of Outlook. I tried to restart the PC and before it closed, it opened a different app and the character
repeat behavior happened there as well. This makes me think it's a Windows issue rather than rooted in Outlook.

I do have a wireless keyboard and mouse. But the character repeats don't even require me to do a keystroke. They just begin suddenly without even a key input.

The only way to get the behavior to stop is by restarting the PC. If I close out of Outlook & reopen it the behavior resumes (until I completely restart the PC).

The behavior is irregular. It doesn't happen all the time.

This is an ongoing problem. I had it last December, and I have it again now. You will not get a screenshot because your computer is useless while in this "repeated character entry" mode.

Let me describe it. Click on any data entry field, on any application, and some character, e.g. the character "i" will be rapidly and continually entered until the buffer limit is reached, if there is one. For example if you are using Word, and click on
the entry page, you will see "iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" until the cows come home, or you enter escape or kill the application.

Circumstances:

Windows 10

HP Envy tower machine.

WIRELESS HP mouse

Occurred intermittently, even after restart. and shutdown.

If you switch out the wireless mouse with a wired mouse, the problem stops.
