Input signal out of range after Windows 10 Update

    Hi everyone,

I recently upgraded my Windows 7 operating system to Windows 10. Everything seemed to be working pretty well, except that the resolution didn't seem to fit very well (the screen was somewhat stretched and distorted, and any alternate settings that I chose caused black edges to appear on one or both sides of the screen). It was still workable, though.

Then, after a few days, I noticed that the monitor was starting to becoming even more grainy and distorted than before. Finally, I restarted the computer, only to receive the following error message:

"Input signal out of range. Changes settings to 1600x900, 60Hz."

The screen continues to display this message and does not move on to any other screens.

Being unable to make any changes, I started the computer in safe mode. I clicked on Display Settings --> Advanced Display settings and tried to change the resolution to 1600x900, but there is no option for that - it is currently set on 1280x1024.

Furthermore, when I click on "Display Adapter Properties," in order to try to change the screen refresh rate, the only option available is 64 Hz (not 60).

Can anyone recommend a solution for this? I never had any sort of problems with the monitor when I had my previous operating system.

In case it helps, I have an HP2011xi monitor. It is connected to the CPU via a VGA cord.

    -TG

    :)

  2. Input Signal Out of Range after Win10 Update installation

    Hi,

The error can occur if the signal from the video adapter exceeds the scan range of the new monitor. You can visit this
article to know more information about this error and
    to try the resolution provided.

Let us know how it goes.

Input Signal Out of Range after Win10 Update installation

I have 2 monitors on my PC connected to the Display Ports on the Nvidia Video card Quadro 6000. Windows 10 was working just fine until an update was installed two days ago. Then an Input Signal Out of Range error displays and both monitors went to sleep.
When verifyin the Refresh Rate it shows 33 Hz, but there is no opportunity to change it. But there is no problem if conncted to the DVI port. How can I correct this? I need both monitors to work. (my monitors are HP LP2465). Thanks.

What is listed as the Display Adapter in Device Manager?

I'd bet (5¢) that it's the Microsoft Basic adapter, meaning that you need drivers for your graphics device.

As you've told us nothing about that, we can't direct you to a download location.

    Hi bobkn,

You're correct; it is the Microsoft Basic Adapter.

What information do you need me to provide you with?

  6. Do you know what Graphics Card you have? Not sure if this will work [hence my title on the forums *Wink ], but do Windows Key+R (this pulls up Run)

In the Run box, enter dxdiag. A popup asking to check for signed drivers (or something like that) may come up, click no/cancel (can't remember what that prompt says off the top of my head). Once the DirectX Diagnostics comes up, go under Display. You should see the information under 'Device', hopefully. Let us know what graphics card you're running.

If this doesn't work... then, sorry.

Graphics card hardware. (Might be internal.)

An indirect way: go into Device Manager, Display Adapters, Details tab. Get the hardware ID. (The shortest version is probably OK.) A web search on that may tell you what the display adapter is.

I hope that it isn't an internal Intel graphics controller. Their naming system is ridiculously confusing, and their driver support for old devices is lacking. ("old" could be only a few years, for Intel.)

Switch out your video cable to a DP to DP and that should do it. I went through a lot of suffering trying to troubleshoot this one too. The card ended up being fine. I believe windows 10 update changed something that I could not recover from. I even ordered up a new expensive video card. It wasn't until I tried an entirely different video cable that I began to realize what had happened. Hope a few of you all get this message and give it a spin. Worked for me. -Mac

Save yourself some time. Do you have a connection on your monitor and computer that will allow a Display port cable? If you do, borrow one to test then run to staple or best buy and get that cable. I bet you your system will work just fine after boot up. Please let me know if that works. This is an interesting problem and I'd like to know more about it from the Miscrosoft side of things. It happened on my system with the latest Microsoft update.

safemode on bootup. I hit it on a boot up. However, it took me several attempts at the boot up. I was either hitting the F4 key or the 4 key after cmos loaded. I'm convinced a windows update changed some video settings.

You will have to restart for certain. Boot into safemode and set your video to lowest resolution you may even have to check your refresh rate is set to 60. OR find a DP to DP (display port) cable and plug it in and see what happens. I was lucky and a friend here has the cable and I'm using it.

Input signal out of range after Windows 10 Update

    @macinric @batlhilz
I have booted the system in safe mode and while i was trying to open display settings, a dialog box popped up saying:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel"

I don't have any idea what does that mean. What should i do then?
