if you can boot up to safe mode, go to the device manager and remove all the graphic cards and stuff related to those. then try and reboot normally. it should be back at 800x600 when you boot back up on normal mode or 1024x768

changing a cable might help here too, cause the EDID information should be sent to the windows in order to help the windows adjust its own resolution correctly. for some reason, 64Hz sounds nothing like this and the driver has just "made up his mind"

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, @batlhilz

I clicked on "Go to the previous build" option in the Advanced Repair Options. and hence I could able to go to the desktop in the normal mode successfully.

    Thank you so much guys!

Hi all, @Michaelvas17 - attached is the information I was able to get using the steps you recommended (see image below).

@bobkn - unfortunately, it is in fact an Intel driver, and from doing a little research online, it doesn't appear that they have provided drivers that are compatible with Windows 10 (nor will they). (See Intel G43/G45 Express Chipset Graphics Card Dri... |Intel Communities, especially the final post).

@macinric - I would love to do this, but unfortunately my monitor does not actually have a DP jack - just VGA and DVI.

Any suggestions?? This is quite the problem.

Input signal out of range after Windows 10 Update

I'd go back to Wind 7 unless like me, you didn't keep your old windows seven backup system files. I deleted them off to gain space*Sad I've seen somewhere that my computer thinks it has 2 monitors hooked up to it. It doesn't. At some point I found programs opening up and trying to display onto the phantom monitor. I wish I had the expertise to better advise on a remedy for windows 10 latest update. I think someone within this thread fixed it recently so read though carefully. Good luck!

Would I gain anything by connecting my monitor to the CPU with a DVI cord and not a VGA cord?

I was using a DVI cord before encountering the problem and when I encountered the problem. So, no. It's possible that the pc thinks that it sees two monitors too. I'm sory but you're either gonna have to solve the problem or buy yourself a Display port cable.

I would be more than happy to buy myself a Display Port cable, except that my monitor does not have a display port. So that option is off the table.

Input signal out of range after Windows 10 Update

Can anyone recommend what kind of display card I would need to purchase in order to remedy the issue that I am having?

  9. timgabe,

Seems that your current setting is using a refresh rate of 64 GHz (not 60, that's why it's erroring).
Try going into Settings > System > Display, then click on the monitor in question (i.e. if you have two monitors click on the correct monitor. If you don't know what Windows recognizes as monitor 1 and monitor 2, click Identify.) and click on Advanced display settings.

Under this menu, scroll down to the section that says Related settings, and underneath click on the option that says Display adapter properties. You'll see something like this:

Under the Monitor tab, change the refresh rate from 64 to 60 hertz. Click OK, and then (I recommend this, because it happened to me once) restart.

You should be good, assuming I am correct.

    Hello Michael,

Unfortunately, my computer does not allow me to adjust the refresh rate. There is no option other than 60 Hz.

I do want to reiterate my above question - if I am looking to purchase a new video card to take card of this problem, what do I need to buy?

  11. What's the model information of your computer (that is, assuming this PC is from Dell or some other system manufacturer).

    Hi Michael, it's a Dell Studio 540 (64 bit). It's older (2009).

Not sure if this is important (I'm copying from the system specs page), but it also says:

    ProcessorIntel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz, 2800 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s)

Hi everybody, would appreciate some insight if at all possible as far as what video card I would need to purchase... my wife uses this computer for work, so the fact that it is "down and out" is kind of a problem for us.
