At any point in time on any day of the week, Microsoft’s cloud computing operations are under attack: The company detects a whopping 1.5 million attempts a day to compromise its systems.Microsoft isn’t just fending off those attacks. It’s also learning from them.

All those foiled attacks, along with data about the hundreds of billions of emails and other pieces of information that flow to and from Microsoft’s cloud computing data centers, are constantly being fed into the company’s intelligent security graph.

Microsoft invests about $1 billion in cloud security each year.

It’s a massive web of data that can be used to connect the dots between an email phishing scam out of Nigeria and a denial-of-service attack out of Eastern Europe, thwarting one attack for one customer and applying that knowledge to every customer using products including the company’s Azure computing platform, Windows 10 operating system or Office 365 productivity service.

Those security threats have heightened substantially in recent years, as criminals have built lucrative businesses from stealing data and nation states have come to see cybercrime as an opportunity to gain information, influence and advantage over their rivals. That’s led to potentially catastrophic attacks such as the WannaCrypt ransomware campaign that’s made headlines in the past few weeks. This evolving threat landscape has begun to change the way customers view the cloud.

“It was only a few years ago when most of my customer conversations started with, ‘I can’t go to the cloud because of security. It’s not possible,’” said Julia White, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for Azure and security. “And now I have people, more often than not, saying, ‘I need to go to the cloud because of security.’”

windows 10

I upgraded to windows 10 b/c of constant notification pop-ups recommending updating.

I was currently using windows 7 without any issues.

Unfortunately I gave in and upgraded to 10, after which I could not play High Stakes Poker as Windows Edge was compatible with only Flash and not with Java. High Stakes Poker requires that both Java and Flash be compatible in order to play High Stakes Poker.

I then took my computer to Staples and asked that they roll back my computer to Windows 7. When they attempted to do this there was an error which could not be fixed, i.e., I could not get on the internet.

I was told the only solution is to reset the computer back to the factory settings to the tune of $135.

I am totally outraged that Microsoft continues with Windows 10, when for many it has caused problems where none existed while using Windows 7.

As I left Staples another person came in and said her laptop automatically downloaded Windows 10 and it caused all kinds of problems with her computer.

I am switching to a Mac, which I tried at an Apple store and I was able to play Pogo games in cluding High Stakes Poker.

Their in-store tech support is far superior compared to my experience with microsoft.

Why is Windows Edge not compatible with Java and Flash?

Is microsoft doing any thing to rectify the many problems people are having when they make the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

How do I enable the full "standard" touch keyboard in Windows 10?

And it's gone completely in the Fall Creators Update - does anyone know if it's possible to install some exe or dll from the previous build? I use that keyboard almost exclusively and I'm stuck without it.

It's not gone completely -it still comes up for me on the Windows log in screen, just can't get it to appear afterwards. Very frustrating!

Who said cloud computing was one stop shopping for the bad guys because security of clouds was way behind cloud usage?
Well it was me, about 2 years ago.

Finally Microsoft has stepped up to the plate.
Cloud computing is never going away so security is a must. If more companies and governments get on the same page the bad guys will certainly have their work cut out.

I also think stiffer penalties for those caught hacking would also help. Something along the lines of catching and convicting hackers. The convicted hacker get a choice of being filleted slowly or skinned slowly.
Youtube or maybe Facebook videos would be helpful to get the point across.
