Insight wanted to analyse slow boot with WPA / WPR

    Hello,

I'd like insight for diagnosing long windows 10 boot times.

I have a fairly decent, recent machine (Ryzen 5 2600, MSI B450 gaming plus max, GeForce 1660 TI, SSD system disk, hydrid SSD/HDD data disk).
First, I installed windows 10 over windows 7, as an upgrade. At the time of the upgrade, the system booted (to desktop) in 20 seconds max.
With time, it slowed down. With 1909, it was at around 45 secs, which I find too much. Just upgraded to 2004, which didn't change anything - it's not longer, but it's not shorter either.

Using WPR, I see that my boot main path is 47 seconds. There's ~16 secs of pre session init / PnP and such, which mght be due to the fact that I boot via CSM, not UEFI - planning to convert my SSD to GPT, didn't get to it yet. Then the session init phase is 8 secs, and almost 12 secs for winlogon. I don;t get why RequestCredentials takes 6 seconds - I configured windows to log me on automatically by pre-recording my password - until that phase means something else. There's over 10 secs of BootExplorerInit, some of which is used by cryptic logon perf tasks such as LaunchAnaheimDownloadPage.

Would you help me understand the WPR log in depth? Please find the file at this location.

    Thank you!

    :)

  2. Windows 10 suddenly takes almost 10 minutes to boot (need help analysing WPR)

My Windows 10 usually boot from SSD within 30 seconds. Now it takes almost 10 minutes just to get to the login screen. Already tried the following fix with no success:

    • chkdsk
    • sfc /scannow
    • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • driver update
    • cold boot with all startup program disable
    • safe mode (also take very long to boot)
I tried using WPA and WPR to capture boot sequence but I'm lacking the knowledge to analyze it. Any help would be appreciated.

Insight wanted to analyse slow boot with WPA / WPR

Slow boot, slow shutdown, and slow program starts.

    Hi,

Can you take a boot trace ?

    Here is the steps:

    1. Open a command line as an Administrator (Run As Administrator)
    2. Type the following command in the command line Windows: cd %programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit
    3. Type the following command to start recording the boot trace: wpr -start GeneralProfile -start CPU -onoffscenario Boot -onoffresultspath c:\wpr -numiterations 1 -filemode
    4. Compress the .ETL file generated under the C:\WPR path (very important)
    5. Upload the boot trace file on Dropbox or on TransferNow
