Install after upgrading to SSD drive

I have a desktop one with windows 10 and the other with windows 7. I like to install a SSD drive on the window 7 PC and put 7 back on or if i have to install windows 10. Does anyone have any idea what the best way to go about this. I wanted to keep one of my pc with windows 7 as i do like it better sometimes. I do have the original disk of windows 7 when I built the PC. Not sure if this can be put on another hard drive like the SSD. I heard that the SSD will make my load up time much quicker if I put the operating system on it.

    :)

download Windows 10 upgrade to dvd

Right... but how do I get the W10 clean install on the new SSD after it is on the old disk drive ? I want to take out the disk drive and clean install it on the new SSD . Do you mean the option to clean install on the SSD will be available if both drives
are in during the upgrade ? Then I can remove the old drive and it will then boot with W10 on the SSD?

Install Win8.1 on D: (secondary HDD)

    upgrade to Win10

    Migrate on C: (Primary SSD)

    Am I right?

I read your post a couple of times, but I'm having trouble understanding the question.

If you are asking whether it's OK to use Windows 7 on a PC that has an SSD as a boot drive, the answer is yes.

The main OS feature that benefits an SSD is "trim". (I suggest that you look it up; it's related to "garbage collection", which is desirable to keep good writing performance with an SSD.) Win 7 supports it.

Short answer is that Windows installs are assigned to specific computers (motherboards), not hard drives or SSDs. Even an OEM licensed Windows can be transferred from one hard drive to another or to an SSD so long as it remains installed on the same motherboard.

Be advised that a new, clean install of Windows 7 (and in limited cases Windows 10) will require you to enter the product key.

Sorry for not explaining to well, was in a hurry and should have read a little more before posting. I like to replace the HD with a SSD. I have heard this will make the response time much faster, turning on the machine as well as working in video editing. I have always tried asking my buddy what i can do to make it faster, he would say get more memory. Now I have a home built 1TB hard drive on a i5-2500K cpu @ 3.30GHz. with 16 GB memory with Windows 7 Home premium. I also have another newer PC (DELL) with windows 10. Wife likes windows 7 , so I like to try and keep that on. But what would be the best way to install the SSD? Wouldn't it be better to install everything on just the SSD? I know a little about computer but definitely not the smartest. I do know how to read and follow direction, So anything that you can help with is very appreciated. I also want to thank you for replying to my post, I hope this is not as confusing as the last one

Thanks for your reply, I was always told it married the Hard drive . I learned something new today. I do have the original CD for windows 7 but wondered if they would give me the free upgrade to 10 if it after the deadline date.

It's best to keep everything but your user data on the SSD. User data are your documents, movies, music, and photos.

Thanks, that was my intention since I have 3TB WD Book for each, DOC, Movie, music and Photos. I would Copy the item to my desktop do the work then put back on the External Hard drive. I just ordered the Samsung 1TB not the 500GB just in case I get lazy and didn't do the transfer right away.
