Windows 10: Install CAB file in Windows 10

Ah, I see. That's not really a Microsoft KB update, but a driver instead.

You may be able to extract the contents of the Realtek .cab file with say "7-Zip", and run the setup.exe file for Realtek that way.

 

that's the bad news, there no setup.exe inside the cab, instead i extracted and made Device Manager to look for the driver and install it. But there is a lot more than the driver to be installed inside that cab.

 

That's ok. Device Manager will only install the correct driver for your Realtek HD audio.

This Option of yours really is the easiest way!. You rock!

 

For Windows 10, this is not correct. For example for Realtek drivers, .CAB files MUST be extracted to it's own folder and then installed through "Device Manager->Update Driver Software..." and then selecting the extracted .CAB folder. This will also install the Realtek Audio Manager automatically(confirmed this).

DISM cannot install these Realtek .CAB files, no matter what you try to do.

 

I tried that, but an error always occur while it's installing. How are you gonna install your realtek Audio default from win10 if it doesn't install properly?

OK so heres the easiest way i found to install them on windows 10.....download the cab file obviously....extract it with winrar or 7z or whatever program you prefer i use winrar cuz its simple

go to your taskbar at the bottom of the screen somewhere on there hopefully you will see a speaker icon right click on it as seen below highlight playback devices also seen below





should bring up a window right click on speakers or headphones doesnt matter
go to properties





then another window will open and it will show this




look for controller information and click on properties
i will open another window that looks like this (note you may have to click on change settings under the general tab)



click on the driver tab click update then click browse my computer then u will see another window that you can find where you downloaded and extracted the cab file choose that folder (by the way in windows 10 typically its saved under c: then users then whatever your user name is then look for a blue arrow that says downloads)







then click next will install files automatically

would of taken more screen shots but its a pain and the process is pretty simple i

 

When I right click on a .cab file, I don't have an option for install as shown here.

The "Install" context menu item is not there by default. It'll need to be added first.

This is for Windows Update KB type .cab files though.

I followed the instructions and merged the .reg file but there is still no install option.

 

Odd. I just tested on my system to see if something may have changed, but it still works for me.

Double check to see if you have the registry entries below added from the .reg file in step 2 below.

Seems it didn't take, I only have HasLUAShield. Do you need to run the reg file as admin?

 

Yeah, you'll need to be an admin to be able merge it fully.

 

I ran regedit as admin and imported the reg file but it still didn't take.
